Coaching for Development

Today’s organizations are becoming increasingly aware that people are looking for more than just a place to work. They are looking for organizations interested in everything they bring to the table who are willing to make an investment of time and resources in their development.

Organizations are beginning to face the reality that the “do more with less” philosophy can only take them so far. This approach is clashing with the realism that managers and leaders who are stretched too thin struggle to make the time to develop their employees. In the end, this creates a continuous motion of employees leaving due to lack of meaningful career development and opportunities to grow. Also resulting in managers who are continually hiring and training new employees, getting them up to speed, only to see them leave for other organizations and opportunities.

Coaching for Development is a workshop focused on creating a proactive approach by having meaningful conversations with direct reports and peers who want to stretch beyond where they are today.

In this session, participants will:

  • Understand clearly the roles of the coach and the person being coached in the development process
  • Assess behaviors important to establishing a development coaching relationship with direct reports and peers
  • Use a development coaching framework in direct report and peer-to-peer relationships
  • Identify high-impact forms of development
  • Learn tips and techniques to use when developing others in virtual settings
  • Practice development coaching and receive immediate feedback
  • Create an action plan to target 1-2 areas of growth needed to become a more effective development coach

This is a highly interactive workshop with over 75% of the time spent in meaningful activities designed to keep adults actively engaged and learning while doing. Methods used include:

  • Participant interviews in pairs
  • Brainstorming activities
  • Interactive participant handouts
  • Individual assessment and reflection
  • Linking concepts to real situations
  • Small group activities
  • Skills practice

Turning Feedback into Action

The 360 Feedback Process can be a high-impact experience within a leadership development process. It is vital that organizations do more to help leaders process and use the feedback, essentially, turning the feedback into action that will help lead the organization to achieve business results.

Turning Feedback into Action is one of the necessary components to an effective feedback process. This two-part workshop is designed to:

Part I:

  • Prepare participants prior to receiving their feedback report, for the emotional and rational reactions to receiving a large amount of feedback at one time
  • Teach participants how to read and interpret their feedback report
  • Set the stage for receiving their individual report
  • Receive their individual report.
  • Outline the next steps in the process

1-on-1 Coaching Session: Meet 1-on-1 with a feedback coach to provide an opportunity for the feedback receiver to continue to process his/her feedback report

During this time, the feedback receiver is able to validate key themes and messages identified in their feedback report, view their feedback in perspective of the whole and pinpoint the most logical starting point for their action plan.

Part II:

  • Guide participants through the action planning process, using the pre-work completed after their 1-on-1 coaching session
  • Provide ideas for the participants to help them achieve the objectives of their leadership action plan
  • Give participants a framework to use in discussing their feedback with their manager, peers and direct reports
  • Identify expectations and deliverables for next steps in the process

Workshop Length: Part I: 2 hours, 1-on-1 Coaching session: 1 hour, Part II: 4 hours
